HALIFAX – Royal Host Inc. (TSX:RYL), which operates hotels in several provinces under banners such as Travelodge, Super 8, Holiday Inn, and Hilton, narrowed its net loss to $562,000 in the first quarter from $2.1 million a year earlier.
The loss equalled three cents versus a loss of 12 cents per share year-over-year, the company reported Monday.
Royal Host’s revenue was slightly lower at $16.9 million compared with $17.4 million in the same quarter of 2012.
The company said its main focus for the rest of the year will be to maintain a corporate and operational structure that is cash flow positive and will look at reducing costs and sources for additional revenues.
Royal Host is a diversified hospitality company that is involved in hotel ownership, management, investment and franchising.
The company’s hotels, which have approximately 2,824 rooms, are located in five provinces and territories. In addition to its real estate holdings, the Royal Host owns and operates the Travelodge Canada franchise.
