CLAY, N.Y. – Police say a storage pod fell off a truck at a New York facility, crushing the woman who was trying to unload it.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says the 38-year-old Florida woman was unloading the portable storage unit from a truck at the PODS facility in the town of Clay on Thursday afternoon when one of the straps got tangled.
Deputies say the woman was attempting to free the strap when it gave way, causing the pod to release and land on top of her. An employee using a forklift nearby came to her aid and used the vehicle to get the pod off her.
The woman is in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Her name and hometown haven’t been released.
