NEW YORK, N.Y. – Stock prices are lower on Wall Street as the market takes a pause after hitting its latest record high.
The Dow Jones industrial average lost 52 points, or 0.3 per cent, to close at 15,973 Tuesday.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index gave up five points, 0.3 per cent, to 1,802, just below it’s the all-time high it closed at the day before. The Nasdaq composite fell eight points, 0.2 per cent, to 4,060.
Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs rose after investors got some clarity on new banking rules. Federal regulators voted to approve the so-called Volcker Rule, which bars banks from betting on the market with their own money.
Three stocks fell for every two that rose on the New York Stock Exchange. Trading volume was average.
