NEW YORK, N.Y. – Participant Media is calling a halt to its Pivot cable network, which will wind down this fall, the company said Wednesday.
Debuting three years ago, Pivot targeted young adults with a message of social advocacy and involvement.
But the changing media landscape has steered Participant Media away from network ownership as it reaffirms its mission “to entertain and inspire social action around the world’s most pressing issues,” said CEO David Linde.
He said the environment for stand-alone, independent cable networks has grown significantly more competitive since Pivot launched in August 2013.
Participant will now focus on producing content across all media platforms.
Founded in 2004, Participant Media has produced more than 70 films with a social-impact theme including “Spotlight,” ”Lincoln” and “An Inconvenient Truth.”
