Don’t wait to look for a new gig. “Employers want to hire people who are already employed. Once you lose your job, the deck is already stacked against you,” says Surranna Sandy, president of ResumeSolutions.ca. Here are her tips for reeling in job offers:

1. Treat your job hunt as a full-time job. Don’t sleep in.

2. Rejection will happen. Accept it as part of the process. Don’t allow yourself to sink with each no. Have a positive attitude with everyone you meet.

3. Avoid becoming a gym hermit. Being active and engaged in other facets of your life will help you handle the lows.

4. Network first, respond to job ads second. Don’t overlook recruiting firms and headhunters, though.
