Q&A from Rebecca Cotter

Professional event planner Rebecca Cotter was disgusted by the garbage cans overflowing with plastic water and pop bottles at the outdoor events she organized. She launched Water-on-Wheels in 2010 to combat the problem and provide mobile water stations at which patrons can refill reusable bottles with municipal tap water for free at both private and municipal outdoor events. For event planners, WOW is a turnkey solution—complete with its own cooling system, tents, signage and staff—that keeps people hydrated, thus helping to head off emergency health issues, while cutting down on event cleanup costs.

But Cotter stresses that the inspiration behind WOW goes beyond cutting clients’ costs. She says WOW serviced more than 200 events during the 2012 event season, which amounted to more than 300,000 disposable water bottles being diverted from waste disposal and recycling systems.
