Manjit Minhas is the CEO of Minhas Brewery and Distillery. This year, she made her debut as one of the fiery Dragons on the CBC’s hit entrepreneurship show Dragons’ Den. (She also delivered the keynote at the 2015 PROFIT/Chatelaine W100 Idea Exchange).

Here’s what Minhas says she learned in 2015.

The lesson I was reminded of this year is, €˜Spend no more than you earn.’ We’ve always believed that, but spending can get out of control in any business as you get bigger.

And this year, we’ve really been affected by the low Canadian dollar and the recession, particularly in Alberta, where we’re based. We haven’t had any layoffs—and we don’t plan to—but it means all of us working together to keep overhead low.
