Job Description:

These managers typically oversee the engineering department of a company, or work at engineering consulting firms. They evaluate the products and operations of their team, and set the internal procedures and standards that engineers must adhere to in their technical work. Engineering managers also deal with a firm’s clients, and are expected to explain proposals and present findings.

Job Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) are musts. To nab one of these jobs, you’ll be expected to have not only excellent technical expertise and experience in your field, but also communication and management skills.


Wage growth in this job is moderate, with median salaries being around $100,000 in 2015.

Career Opportunity:

No significant gaps between labour supply and demand over the next few years are expected in this category, which includes engineering, science and architecture managers. But Job Bank Canada says information systems and data processing managers will be in high demand.
