Over the past few years, CGI has come in for some unflattering headlines—it built the Obamacare health-care registration website that had an infamously rocky start—but that doesn’t seem to have harmed its growth. For instance, in May 2016, CGI landed a $500-million 12-year deal to manage SNC-Lavalin’s outsourced IT. Godin founded CGI Group in 1976 and remains its executive chairman. Outside CGI, Godin has endowed a family foundation focused on poverty reduction and also owns a Westmount, Que., horse-racing stable called Determination. In 2016 he was elevated from a member of the Order of Canada to an officer.
