Cameron Taylor’s company BOATSmart! is in year three of a successful partnership with mega-retailer Canadian Tire. The company is one of 20 private businesses catering to recreational boaters who need their pleasure craft operating certification. The certification is federally mandated, but the government is letting the private sector carry out the training process.
BOATSmart! has been able to set itself apart from the competition, establishing itself as the most recognized brand among a field of businesses offering similar services. Taylor says the business differentiates itself by presenting their services in unique ways. For instance, producing narrated, animated versions of their study guide online. But partnerships with heavy-hitters like Canadian Tire and Nissan haven’t hurt, either. A marketing partnership with Nissan has yielded great results; and Canadian Tire has helped BOATSmart! reach customers where they live, work and play.
Not a lot of SMEs are able to strike successful relationships with big corporations. How did BOATSmart build these partnerships?
On today’s episode of the PROFIT BusinessCast, Taylor talks about working within a government framework, knowing which major brands are the right partners for your business and convincing those companies that your brand is a good fit for them.
